October 12 is National Pumpkin Pie Day and in honour of autumn, Newport’s Vanderbilt Grace, part of the award-winning luxury boutique hotel group, Grace Hotels, will be offering guests more than just views of the beautiful foliage, as the exquisite mansion hotel launches its Apple Harvest package.Image

Autumn is one of the most perfect times of year to visit Rhode Island, New England.  The vibrant colours of the turning leaves and stunning scenery paint picturesque landscapes, providing the perfect backdrop for a weekend away. Guests of Vanderbilt Grace who choose the two-night Apple Harvest package will be treated to a day trip to the charming Sweet Berry Farm – winner of Newport Life Magazine’s 2012 Best Local Grower award – where they can pick fresh apples and pumpkins while exploring the bounty of the farm grounds. A Champagne breakfast is included daily, and the hotel’s fine dining restaurant, Muse by Jonathan Cartwright, will be serving autumn-inspired apple cocktails and seasonal favourites on the menu.

The hotel will be celebrating a host of events taking place in Newport this Autumn. A special Beer Dinner will be created by Vanderbilt’s very own Chef Jonathan Cartwright to mark Oktoberfest and there will be dedicated Thanksgiving and Halloween menus.

From September 21-23 Rhode Island will be hosting the 7th annual Newport Mansions Wine and Food Festival.  With a crowd of 3,500 expected, the festival will offer several wine seminars featuring noted sommeliers and experts, interwoven with tastings from celebrity chefs. Chef Jonathan Cartwright will be a featured celebrity chef, hosting a cooking demonstration on Sunday afternoon. Muse will also be taking part in the Grand Tasting on both the Saturday and Sunday of the Festival.

The Apple Harvest package is available from 21st September – 31st October 2012 from $950 (USD) based on double occupancy and inclusive of two nights stay.

Collezione StarHotel- The Michelangelo New York

On arrival at the Micheangelo hotel in NYC, you are greeted by the friendly and helpful doormen. This is a hotel which oozes elegance, while allowing its guests to feel a home from home ease and comfort.

The hotel is situated in a  convenient location – on one side it is close to Times Square, for the real hustle and bustle and fun side of New York, while on the other side of the hotel it has the Rockefeller Centre only 3 blocks away, not forgetting the Magnolia Bakery, which is opposite and not to be missed (so I’m told!)

The beautiful lobby decor has a Champagne and red colour scheme throughout leading upto the marble reception desk. Staff are extremely gracious and keen to please. We had a light bite and great coffee in the bar area, before checking out the Mezzanine floor and some of the hotel Suites and deluxe standard rooms.

The essence and style of Italy is throughout the rooms, each suite carrying a different theme from neo-gothic black marble, to 193o’s Art Deco style black and white floor tiling.

So if you’re thinking of heading to NYC for a short stay or longer – this would be one for my top ten – Where to Stay in New York!
