This week I met with the lovely owner Sandesh Sharma, of the new luxury resort – Cocoon, Kaikawala, in Induruwa, who personally collected me from Colombo and drove me down the coast. It’s approx 1.5 hr drive from Colombo city and once there the ” Reality of Life” (Cocoon’s strapline) takes on a very luxurious and relaxed feel.
Newly built and designed from conception by the family, there is a real air of tranquility and calmness as you arrive. I’m certainly feeling very special and pampered – on arrival we were greeted by the resort manager and I was asked as a special guest to light a candle for my visit, a Sri Lankan tradition.
I’m told 27 is the number to always keep in mind from now on, so it’s lucky my birthday falls on the 27th June. 27 being the accommodation numbers, which are made up of stunning luxuroius ensuite rooms and beautiful Villas with Jacuzzi’s on the terrace, they boast every mod con, for business travellers and holidaymakers alike. Every detail has been thought of and planned to perfection, even down to the French soap provided in each bathroom, which has been especially imported and smells devine; to the position of each building entrance to give guests maximum privacy.
I was treated to lunch a set menu for the day, the staff were excellent serving from the right only as the hotel owner Sandesh, who trained at The Hospitality School in Lausanne, Switzerland; insists on high standards. Lunch was a modern European menu with a Sri Lankan twist of Sausage, Cheese, pepper & pickle salad, followed by a delicious watercress soup with cream and a main of poached salmon in a Sri Lankan sauce.
They are well stocked as well from Dom Peringnon Vintage bottles and Cristal Champagne to Burgundy wines and Single Malt Whiskies. I stuck to the Watermelon juice, but hopefully next time, we’ll be able to taste a glass of Champagne or two !!! Anyway don’t just take my word for it check it out on www.cocoonresortandvillas.com
